Lake Garda, Italy
Garda Town is located between Bardolino and Torri del Benaco, in a beautiful bay. The lovely promenade is lined with cafes, restaurants and shops.
Nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, the town that gives Lake Garda gives its name.
Smaller and more tranquil than nearby resort towns like Bardolino or Desenzano, Garda offers a charming blend of historic character, natural beauty, and a laid-back atmosphere.
The town is known for its picturesque harbor, lined with colorful buildings, lakeside promenades, and lively cafs.
Strolling through Garda’s medieval streets, youll find artisan shops, gelaterias, and family-run trattorias serving fresh lake fish and regional wines like Bardolino and Custoza.
Just above the town rises the Rocca di Garda, a dramatic limestone cliff offering panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding countryside.
There are ferry boat services across the lake, to Torri del Benaco, Salo, Sirmione and other ports.
Tickets can be bought directly from the ferry service website, except for fast boat tickets which must be bought at the ground station.

Garda dates back to Roman times, and its name is believed to come from the Germanic word warda, meaning guard or watchtower, a nod to its strategic position overlooking the lake.
In the centuries that followed, Garda came under the rule of Venice, and traces of Venetian influence can still be seen in the architecture of its old town and the layout of its narrow, winding streets.
Today, Garda retains much of its historic charmstone churches like Santa Maria Assunta, traditional lakeside villas, and small piazzas evoke a timeless atmosphere. Visitors come not only to relax by the water, but to feel a connection to centuries of layered history, subtly embedded in the towns stones and streets.
