Cannero Riviera is a small resort town renowned for its unusually mild, Mediterranean-style climate—shielded by mountains and bathed in sunlight—allowing lush citrus fruits, camellias, palms, azaleas, and rhododendrons to flourish.

ABOUT

Cannero Riviera is lush and verdant resort on Lake Maggiore that, due to its climate, hosts a variety of fruit and flower festivals aong with others.

These include the International Citrus Festival in March, the Camellia Exhibition, also in spring, (the Italian Camellia Society headquarters are here) and the Luminaria sul Lago (Lights on the Lake) festival in early July – candlelit lakeside events coincide with the patron saint’s festivities.

Restuarants here specialise in freshwater fish dishes—trout, perch, whitefish and char. Citrus-based treats are a specialty: jams, liqueurs, sweets and cakes using lemon, bergamot, chinotto, and other fruits from local groves.

Cannero Riviera is on the north eastern shore of Lake Maggiore and is in the Piedmont region.

The town is well connected by the ss34 road and also by the Lake Maggiore ferry network.

BEACHES & WATERSPORTS

Lido di Cannero Beach is a a wide pebble/sandy beach which was awarded the Blue Flag for clean water and amenities.

Swimming, sailing, canoeing, fishing and canyoning are all available.

FERRY INFORMATION

Cannero is connected to the rest of Lake Maggiore by the lake ferry service.

The ferry links Cannero to Luino and the Intra-Laveno Ferry Boat takes you to the Lombard Eastern shore of the Lake, from where you can easily reach Varese and Milano.

Castelli di Cannero

Striking castle ruins perched on small islets just offshore—built in the early 16th century and tied to local pirate legends. Not accessible by land, they’re best appreciated via a boat trip or from the lakeside

Historic Centre & Piazzetta degli Affreschi:

Wander narrow medieval alleys to discover fresco panels depicting Cannero’s historical milestones, including local uprisings and floods

Churches
Visit the Church of San Giorgio Martire rebuilt after an 1829 flood, notable for its elegant dome and fine frescoes—and the Oratory of San Rocco, dating to the 15th–16th century.

You couldn’t ask for a better location or a better view of the lake! We were warmly welcomed and when we saw our room, we were amazed at the breath-taking view of Lago Maggiore.

Great location, the room was comfortable and the terrace provided a really nice outdoor space. Breakfast was very good. the staff were really friendly and very helpful with local knowledge.
